General
Still curious? Ask us anything.
How long is a lesson?
Standard lessons are 45 minutes, once a week. Shorter lessons are available for very young children.
What ages do you teach?
Kids from about 4 years old (ukulele and piano) up to adults of any age. It is never too late to learn an instrument.
Do you accept the Hope Scholarship?
Yes. Stars Music School is a participating Hope Scholarship provider in West Virginia, so eligible families can use their scholarship funds for music lessons.
Where are the lessons?
In our studio in Inwood, WV, or online by video.
How do I pay?
Cash, Venmo, Zelle, Revolut or Hope Scholarship funds.
What styles do you teach?
Rock, pop, metal, blues, worship, Latin, classical basics and more. Lessons are built around the music you want to play.
What if I need to reschedule?
Let us know at least 24 hours ahead and we will find another time that week.
Do I need to know how to read music?
No. Beginners are welcome and reading is taught step by step as part of the lessons.

Guitar lessons
Acoustic or electric: which should my child start on?
Either works. Electric guitars have lighter strings and are easier on small fingers; acoustic is great if your child mostly wants to sing along. Bring what you have and Fernando will tell you if it is set up well.
Do I need my own guitar?
For practice at home, yes. In the studio there are guitars to use during the lesson, and Fernando can recommend an affordable first guitar.
Piano lessons
Do we need an acoustic piano at home?
No. A digital piano or a keyboard with 61 or more full-size keys is enough to start. Weighted keys help later on.
What age can my child start piano?
Many children start at 5. Short, playful lessons keep younger kids focused.
Drum lessons
Do I need a drum kit at home?
A practice pad and sticks are enough to start. Many families later add an electronic kit with headphones.
Is drumming too loud for young kids?
Students use hearing protection in the studio and Fernando teaches healthy listening habits from day one.
Bass guitar lessons
Can a guitarist switch to bass?
Yes, and quickly. You already know the fretboard; lessons focus on rhythm, feel and bass-specific technique.
Short scale or long scale bass for a kid?
Short-scale basses are easier for smaller hands. Fernando can help you pick one.
Ukulele lessons
Which ukulele size should we buy?
A soprano or concert ukulele is ideal for kids. Concert or tenor sizes suit adults.
Is ukulele a good start before guitar?
Yes. The chord shapes and rhythm skills transfer directly to guitar.
